It is the
responsibility of the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee to
investigate allegations of UPL via direct contact with
complainants, attorneys, courts and the persons or corporations
against whom the allegation has been advanced.
The committee
strives to prevent the unlawful practice of law for the purpose of
protecting the public, by educating people that the unauthorized
practice of law is a first degree misdemeanor in the State of Ohio
and therefore punishable by both fines and imprisonment. The
committee also has the authority to initiate a Complaint with the
Ohio Supreme Court’s Board of Commissioners on the Unauthorized
Practice of Law seeking interim cease and desist orders, final
orders prohibiting any such future conduct, as well as civil
penalties. The committee further endeavors to prevent UPL by
informing individuals that inquiries, suspicions, or complaints
can be directed to the Mahoning County Bar Association |
